Adding Recipes

Paste, scan, or import from URLs

How do I add a recipe?

Tap the + button at the bottom of the screen. You can paste recipe text from anywhere — websites, messages, emails — or type it manually. Nina will automatically detect the title, ingredients, and steps.

Can I import from a website URL?

Yes! Just paste the URL and Nina will extract the recipe automatically. This works best with popular recipe sites that use standard formatting (like AllRecipes, Serious Eats, NYT Cooking, etc.).

Can I add recipes from photos?

Yes, with Nina's Pro you can scan recipes from photos, screenshots, or cookbook pages. Tap the camera icon when adding a recipe to use this feature.

The recipe didn't parse correctly. What do I do?

No worries! After pasting, you'll see a review screen where you can edit the title, ingredients, and steps before saving. You can always edit a recipe later too by long-pressing on it.

Is there a limit on recipes?

Free users can store up to 30 recipes. Upgrade to Nina's Pro for unlimited recipe storage.

Shopping List

Automatic grocery lists from your cook queue

Go to the "Cooking next" tab (flame icon). Below your planned recipes, you'll see a combined shopping list of all ingredients you need, smartly grouped and deduplicated.

How do I check off ingredients?

Tap on any ingredient to check it off. Checked items move to the bottom of the list with a strikethrough, so you can easily see what's left to buy.

Are pantry items automatically checked?

Yes! If you've set up your pantry, items you already have will be automatically checked off in your shopping list. No more buying lemons you already have!

Can I copy the shopping list?

Yes! Tap "Copy missing ingredients" to copy all unchecked items to your clipboard. Great for sharing with a partner or pasting into your preferred notes app.

Pantry

Track what you have at home

What is the pantry?

The pantry is where you track ingredients you always have on hand (like salt, oil, flour, eggs). These items are automatically checked off in recipes and shopping lists, so you only see what you actually need to buy.

How do I set up my pantry?

Tap the pantry icon in the top right of your cookbook. You'll see common staples organized by category — just tap to add what you have. You can also add custom items.

How does pantry matching work?

Search

Find recipes by name or ingredients

How do I search for recipes?

Tap the search tab (magnifying glass). You can search by recipe name or by ingredients you have on hand.

How does ingredient search work?

Type ingredients separated by commas (e.g., "chicken, lemon, garlic"). Nina will show recipes ranked by how many ingredients match — from "Great Match" (80%+) to "Partial Match".

Can I search by recipe name?

Yes! Just type the recipe name in the search bar. Results will show recipes with matching titles.

Is deleted data recoverable?

Once the undo window passes, deleted recipes cannot be recovered. All data is stored locally on your device — we don't have access to it.
